Privacy policy

Your privacy, in plain English

A plain-English look at what we collect, what we never collect, and the controls you have over your data.

Who we are

RatedVoices is a consumer review site. We help you find who to trust, and we help real customers share their voice.

This policy explains what happens with your data when you use the site. Last updated: October 2026.

If you have a question we don't answer here, write to us at hello@ratedvoices.com. A real person reads every message.

What we collect

We keep things small. Here's the full list:

  • Account info: the email you sign up with, your chosen display name, and a bcrypt hash of your password (never the password itself).
  • Review content: the words you write, the star rating you give, and the brand you reviewed.
  • Cookies: two small cookies that keep you signed in and show your display name in the header.
  • Server logs: short-lived request logs with IP address, browser type, and the page you asked for. Used to fight spam and keep the site up.

What we don't collect

We're built to be boring on this front, on purpose.

  • No cross-site tracking. We don't follow you around the web.
  • No ad network tags. No Google Ads, Facebook Pixel, or anything like it is loaded on this site.
  • No sale of your data. We don't rent it, swap it, or share it with data brokers.
  • No sensitive categories. We don't ask for your location, your date of birth, or your government ID.

How your reviews appear

When you post a review, the community sees your display name and the words you wrote. That's it.

Your email address stays private. We never show it on the site, and we never pass it to the brand you reviewed.

You can edit or delete your own reviews at any time. If you delete your account, your reviews come down with it.

Cookies we use

Just two cookies, both set by RatedVoices itself. No third parties:

  • rv_session — keeps you signed in. Lasts 30 days. HTTP-only and secure.
  • rv_user — stores your display name so the header can greet you. Lasts 30 days.
  • Clearing cookies in your browser signs you out and removes both.

Your rights in the UK and EU

If you live in the UK or the EU, you can ask us to show you the data we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. You can also ask us to stop processing it.

To use any of these rights, email hello@ratedvoices.com from the address on your account. We'll reply within 30 days.

If you're not happy with how we handled it, you can complain to your local data protection authority — the ICO in the UK, or your national regulator in the EU.

How we keep your data safe

Passwords are stored as bcrypt hashes, so even we can't read them.

Sessions are signed with HS256 tokens so nobody else can pretend to be you.

Every page load runs over HTTPS, end to end. No plain-text traffic.

We keep access to the database tight: only the small team that runs the site can touch it, and every change is logged.

Changes to this policy

If we change anything meaningful, we'll update the date at the top and post a note on the home page for a week.

You'll always be able to read the current version here. If a change needs your fresh agreement, we'll ask for it before it kicks in.

Questions about your data? Email us at hello@ratedvoices.com and a real person will get back to you.
